HMS Temeraire was a ship of the line second class with 98 cannons. She stood in the naval service of the British Royal Navy and was part of the Neptune class. In the Battle of Trafalgar, she distinguished herself especially.

History

Battle of Trafalgar

At the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805, the British fought under Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson against the Franco-Spanish armada. The Temeraire sailed into the windward line in second place, just behind the HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship. At this time was Captain Eliab Harvey commander of the Temeraire. During the battle, the victory was hard pressed by the enemies, so you had to come to the aid of the British ships Temeraire and HMS Neptune. By joining forces, the three British triplane could the Spanish 136- gun ship Santissima Trinidad and the French, carrying 80 guns, Bucentaure, the French flagship fight down, and bring the latter to sink. At the end of the outnumbered British fleet bore away the victory, but Nelson died of a sustained during the battle wound.
