HMS Thetis

Several ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Thetis by Thetis, a figure of Greek mythology

  • The first HMS Thetis was an armed transport ship with 22 cannons, which launched in 1717.
  • The second HMS Thetis was a frigate of 44 guns, which was launched in 1747 and in 1767 sold for demolition.
  • The third HMS Thetis was a frigate of 32 guns, which was launched in 1773 and was lost in 1783 in the Caribbean in St. Lucia by shipwreck.
  • The fourth HMS Thetis was a frigate of 32 guns, which was launched in 1782 and in 1814 sold for demolition.

  • The twelfth HMS Thetis was a submarine of the T -Class, launched in 1938 and 1939, Liverpool fell in trials, in which 99 men died. The boat was lifted, as HMS Thunderbolt into service and sunk by the Italian corvette Cicogna north of Sicily in 1943.
