Hochkelberg

The Hochkelberg in the district of Eifel ( Rhineland -Palatinate ) is 674.9 m above sea level. NHN height of the third highest mountain in the High Eifel and a former stratovolcano,

The Hochkelberg rises between Köttelbach, Bereborn, Kolverath, Sassen and Mosbruch. At the southern foot lies to the east of the Mosbruch Mosbrucher pond. Mountain and pond are located in the nature reserve Hochkelberg with Mosbrucher pond.

Originally, the rock of the mountain today was about 200 meters below the surface. The elevation of the area its outer regions were removed, it was the hard basalt core in its current form received.

The slopes of the Hochkelberg are covered with thick and species-rich beech forests. There were also found remains of Roman structures. On the Südkuppe of the mountain is a radio tower.
