Hodžovo námestie

Hodžovo námestie ( German literally " Hodža Square " ) is a place in the Slovak capital Bratislava. He is well known for its location right next to the Palais Grassalkovich, the seat of the President of Slovakia; therefore pass almost all foreign state visits the place. Before the palace is the Fontana mieru ( peace fountain ), the work of architect Tibor Bártfay. Other notable buildings around the square are the Hotel Crowne Plaza ( hotel sat as a forum), an account opened in 1989, post modern hotel, the multi-purpose center Tatra Centrum (2001) and the administrative Mehrzweckgebäude Astoria Palace (2008). The place is connected to other streets in the old town on a renovated, originally opened in 1970 under the leadership.

The square is named after the Slovak writer Michal Miloslav Hodža ( 1811-1870 ). In the socialist era it was called Mierové námestie ( Peace Square ), so it is colloquially still called Mierko. At the time of the Danube Monarchy was the place Grassalkovich place.

The place is an important junction of the Bratislava public transport network ( bus and trolley bus lines).
