Höganäs

Höganäs is a locality ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne County, in the historical province Scania. It is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

Originally Höganäs was a fishing village around which a mining industry developed, the degraded coal and clay. From this, the refractory ceramics Höganäskrus were produced. The mining industry is now closed, but the ceramic company Höganäs still exists.

The village was mentioned under the old name Höyenaess for the first time in 1488. 1936 was granted the city rights Höganäs. On 1 January 2009 in Höganäs started the project " Euro -City ", which established the Euro as its official currency in addition to the Swedish crown. The common currency is accepted in most shops and can be withdrawn at ATMs.

Höganäs received in 1885 a railway connection. The route Åstorp - Kattarp - Höganäs was financed mainly from the metal powder manufacturer Höganäs AB. 1910, the railway line Höganäs Molle was put into operation; it was financed largely by private investors such as hotel owners. Until 1919 the two railway lines were not connected. This year, the Central station (central station) was put into operation. In 1937 the line was electrified by Kattarp to Molle. The route to Molle was decommissioned in 1963. On the route there is now a cycle path. 1972, passenger services were discontinued after Kattarp, 1992, the freight. 1997, this route was dismantled. Today, the local government is in designed by Folke Zettervall station building.
