Hogeschool Gent

The Hogeschool Gent (abbreviated HOGent ) is a Dutch-speaking university in the Belgian region of Flanders with facilities in Gent, Melle and Aalst. In English language publications it is also known as University College Ghent (UCG ). The Hogeschool Gent, however, is clearly distinguished from the Universiteit Gent.

Location

The administrative headquarters of the university is located at Kortrijksesteenweg 14 in Ghent. The campus facilities Schoonmeersen, Hoogpoort, Bijloke, Vesalius, Academiestraat, Ledeganck, Mercator - Henleykaai and Mercator - Groot-Brittanniëlaan/Abdisstraat are spread throughout the city of Ghent. The campus facilities Melle and Bedrijfskunde Aalst located in Melle and Aalst.

Genesis

While going the beginnings of the predecessor institutions of today's college with the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten ( CASC ) to the year 1741 returns, the current university was however only in 1995 in the wake of the Flemish higher education reform by the merger of 13 previously independent universities. The Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten ( CASC ) and the Koninklijk Conservatorium (KC ) were summarized here for School of Arts. Later, two more universities were added, so that now operate a total of 15 formerly independent colleges under the common name HoGent. In 2009, the university had 16,429 students, down behind the KU Leuven and the Universiteit Gent ranks third in terms of student enrollment in Flanders. The students are distributed among the above-mentioned ten campus facilities in Ghent and Melle and Aalst.

Construction

The HoGent is a so-called multisectorale instelling, that is under its umbrella are very different courses together, some of which only very few or no connections or with each other, have overlaps.

Partner universities

The HoGent is a partner university of the University of Hannover ( University of Applied Sciences and Arts ), and are offered in this context, special programs for visiting students.

Memberships and Awards

  • The HoGent is a member of the association 's Eyes ( Associatie Universiteit Gent )
  • In 2009, the European Commission announced that the translation department of the HoGent only institution in Flanders in the master training ( larger needles: " Vertalen Master in het ") forms part of the Network European Master 's in Translation (EMT ). Thus, the training course is one of the 34 best courses in 27 European countries in this field.
