Hogganvik runestone

The Runestone Hogganvik is discovered in Mandal ( Norway ) in 2009 Runestone, bearing a runic inscription in the Elder Futhark. The stone is dated to about the time of 350-500 nu Z. With 61 runic characters is one of the oldest known inscriptions from this period. It is the first rune stone was found in 1947 in Norway. Under the rune stone is another great stone that keep the experts for the capstone of a tomb. As another grave was discovered on the same property about 20 years ago, this interpretation is likely.

Description

The stone measures 152 (width) x 145 x 20-25 cm and weighs an estimated 800 kg. He could have served as a lid of a tomb or stood upright and his then fallen over.

Inscription

The inscription consists of four right-handed ( to be read from right to left ) lines that can not be interpreted linguistically meaningful. A line begins with Ek Naudigastir ("I Naudagistr "). It is believed that Naugadistr is the name of a man. The oldest known runic row consists of 24 characters. She was initially only at the North Germans, during the migration period in some cases also in the East and West Germans (from the 5th century ) in use. Only more than 350 inscriptions in this ancient runes have been discovered.
