Hōjō Masako

Hōjō Masako (北 条 政 子jap, * 1156, † August 16, 1225 ) was the eldest child of Hōjō Tokimasa and his wife Hōjō no Maki. Her father was the first Shikken, or Regent, in the Kamakura shogunate. She was also the sister of Hōjō Yoshitoki, and was with Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura era, married. She was the mother of Minamoto no Yoriie and Minamoto no Sanetomo, the second and third Shogun, and played a prominent role in Japanese history.
