Holborn Viaduct railway station

Holborn Viaduct was a railway station in central London. He was on the same road on the western edge of the City of London. A portion was built as a railway terminus, a second part as a through station.

Holborn Viaduct

The sechsgleisige railhead Holborn Viaduct was opened on March 2, 1874 as additional terminus of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway ( LC & DR). He was on a 267 -meter-long branch of the route through the Snow Hill tunnel. Passenger traffic through the tunnel was set in 1916, because of the short distance (640 meters) to the Blackfriars Station and the intermediate station Ludgate Hill was closed in 1929.

Mid-1980s they took the Snow Hill tunnel again for passenger transport in operation. The operation of the station Holborn Viaduct was gradually reduced, closing on 26 January 1990. The station building, which housed a hotel, was demolished. As a replacement came in the underlying Tunnels the City Thameslink station.

Snow Hill / Holborn Viaduct Low Level

On 1 August 1874, the LC & DR and the two-track station Snow Hill opened. This was underground at the Snow Hill Tunnel, which connected the LC & DR with the Metropolitan Railway at Farringdon.

The station was next to the head station Holborn Viaduct and was renamed in 1912 in Holborn Viaduct Low Level. With the setting of the passenger traffic through the tunnel on June 1, 1916 also ended the operation of the station. The two side platforms are partially preserved and are of the passing trains from visible.
