Holgate is a village in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio in Henry County and is located about 47 miles south west of the nearest city of Toledo. At the 2000 census, the village took 1,194 inhabitants.

History

Before 1866, there was Holgate and the surroundings of the village only from bogs and largely untouched by human hands flora and fauna, located in the Black Swamp. In 1873 the whole area was finally freed from the swamps and made ​​cultivable.
