Holguín is a city in the east of Cuba and capital of the province. It is equipped with 346 195 inhabitants ( census 2012) is the third largest city in Cuba.

Geography
Geographical Location
Holguín is located approximately 500 km east of the capital Havana.
History
Holguin was named in 1545 as San Isidoro de presumably Holguin to its Spanish founder, the officer García de Holguín. King Ferdinand VII gave the city in 1752, the city rights. 1872, the city was temporarily liberated by Calixto García by the Spaniards and was henceforth an important center in the wars of independence.
Religion
The city is the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop. On 14 November 2005 Pope Benedict XVI appointed. the new bishop Emilio Aranguren Echeverria, who had previously been Bishop of Cienfuegos.

The cityscape is dominated by several parks, the centrally located Galixto García Park.

From the vantage point on the hill Loma de la Cruz with its 450 steps you can see the whole city.

The city owns the Frank País airport an international airport, with the Holguín Havana and various international destinations such as Frankfurt connects.
Established businesses
The place has a large brewery, the Cerveceria Bucanero SA, the bride next to the house brands Bucanero Fuerte and Bucanero Max the beers of brands Cristal and Mayabe. There, too, the alcohol-free, malted soft drink Malta is made.
