Holly Black

Holly Black née Riggenbach ( born November 10, 1971 in New Jersey ) is an American writer. She was known for her fantasy series The Spiderwick Chronicles (English original title " The Spiderwick Chronicles "), which was created in collaboration with the illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi.

Life

Holly Black was born in 1971 and grew up in New Jersey. Her mother, a painter and doll maker, inspired her daughter to the world of mythical creatures. As a teenager Holly wrote many poems and plays, and even a book that, according to their own information, however, was miserable. In 1994, she graduated with a B. A. at the College from New Jersey.

She first worked in medical journals such as The Journal of Pain, while she studied at Rutgers University. However, you broke her studies in favor of writing.

In New York, where in 1996 at the Games Magazine " d8 " worked, she met the illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi. During this time she wrote her first youth and fantasy novel Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale, which was released in 2002 and garnered rave reviews; so the book by the American Library Association "Best Book for Young Adults " was declared. The German translation was published in 2003 under the Tenth in the Arena Publishing, the latest issue is titled Elf Daughter ( cbj -Verlag). In summer 2003 the first volume of the Spiderwick Chronicles appeared.

Holly Riggenbach married in 1999 the artist and web designer Theo Black, whom she already knew from high school, and took his last name. Holly Black lives with her family and with many animals in New Jersey.
