Hollywood Foreign Press Association

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( German foreign press association Hollywood, short HFPA ) is an American organization of Film Journalists. Members are journalists of different nationalities, who mainly work in Hollywood, but publish their work in the non- American press.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association was founded by a correspondent of the Daily Mail, a British newspaper in 1943. Best known is the organization through which since 1944 takes place every year the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. According to the New York Times, registered as a non-profit organization HFPA 2003 earned 5.7 million U.S. $ at the Golden Globe Awards.

Currently, the HFPA is composed of 81 active members and 3 honorary members " for life ". Among the active members are as representatives of the German press, the correspondents Elmar Biebl, Avik Gilboa, Anke Hofmann, Helen Hoehne, Munawar Hosain, Yoram Kahana, Karen Martin, Scott Orlin, Patrick Roth, Frances Schoenberger and Dierk Sindermann. The inclusion criteria in the HFPA apply - as well as the choice criteria of the Golden Globes - as transparent. The admission of members takes place only on the proposal of two active members. Applications for admission of correspondents renowned papers like The Times or Le Monde were sometimes rejected as a freelancer from Bangladesh and South Korea were included.
