Holmberg IX

UGC 5336 ( Holmberg IX also ) is a dwarf irregular galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major, which is removed from the earth about 12 million light-years. The star system is a companion to the larger spiral galaxy Messier 81

Discovery

The galaxy UGC 5336 was discovered in the 1950s by Swedish astronomer Erik Bertil Holmberg.
