Holocaust (Band)

Holocaust is a Heavy Metal band from Scotland.

History

Holocaust was founded in Edinburgh in 1977 and was an important part of the so -called " New Wave of British Heavy Metal " movement. After the departure of John Mortimer ( electric guitar ) and the unsuccessful EP Comin 'Through Holocaust broke up in late 1982. A revival attempt in 1984 with the album No Man's Land, which was completely missing the harsh sound of the previous days, failed.

It was not until 1988 that John Mortimer with Graham Hall (bass ) and Steve Cowen (drums) put together a new line-up. Original vocalist Gary Lettice was not available for this, Mortimer took over about the song itself As already showed the first release of the new Holocaust, the mini-album The Sound of Souls ( 1989), was not about to preserve the sound of the 1980s, but a to develop new, hard, modern form of Heavy Metal with longer, more complex pieces. This development was indeed to guess on older songs like The Night Comers or the gecoverten Metallica The Small Hours, but startled the musical change from many fans. Despite the very modest success of the new studio albums, the band was active and played eg 1993 at the Wacken Open Air The concept album Covenant based on a novel cycle of Fantasy author Stephen R. Donaldson. In the mixed occupation with two bulkheads ( Mortimer and guitarist John McCullim ) and two Americans ( drummer Ron Levine and bassist Bryan Bartley ) was added to June 2002, the last album Primal.
