Holstein Friesian cattle

In the Holstein breed of cattle is one of the world's major dairy breeds. It is commonly synonymous with the powerful dairy dar. In Germany it is the breed most commonly used in milk production. With more than 1.6 million registered breeding animals at the same time Germany has the world's largest breeding population. It is grown in the direction of color black and white (Holstein Friesian, HF) and red-white ( Red Holstein).

The origins of this breed are in North America, participated as German emigrants in the 17th century and their Friesian Holstein land shocks with in the new home. In the USA and Canada (first Breeders' Association founded in 1871 ) was from the imported animals, a breed with very high milk yield, but low fat content of the milk, cultured.

Only got through the detour Canada and the United States which is now Holstein - Friesian ( HF) cattle called to Germany, where the first herd book was established in 1876. This new breeding direction sat until the 1960s against the Black Pied Lowland cattle in the Federal Republic of Germany. At the beginning of the 1980s the color to Red Holstein was strongly bred into the population of the German Red and Whites.

In the GDR, Holstein - Friesian were bred late. In order to increase the content of fat and protein in milk, and to improve the milking speed significantly, we mated from 1961 and later tentatively scheduled the Black Pied Lowland cattle with Danish Jersey. On the crossbreds were added from the 1970s Holstein - Friesian to increase frame and milk yield. Meanwhile, the Black Pied dairy cattle (SMR ) and the black colored lowland cattle are threatened with extinction. From the latter the Dutch - Argentine beef originated in South America. For better marketing, the two breeding directions Red Holstein and Holstein - Friesian were summarized as Holstein Cattle.

Today, the Holstein - Friesian cow has for its high milk production worldwide a powerful displacement tendency towards other breeds of cattle. Furthermore, it was and will be bred into many dairy breeds Earth Holstein cattle. In particular bulls from the USA are heavily used worldwide.
