Architecture

Theophil Hansen, who had indeed studied Byzantine art in Athens, built as an architect in the style of the Nordic Classicism, he was a Greek coinage in his buildings in Athens. In the construction of the church in Vienna, he designed a building in the Byzantine style for the first time.

Reason for this is probably been that for a classicism is hardly suitable for religious buildings, and on the other, that the church is open as a Greek Orthodox church and other Orthodox Christians, and was used to build their own churches by other Orthodox communities, example of the Serbian community that made the early 1890s to build their own church in the 3rd district.

The main room shows allusions to Baroque church architecture, as can be found in southern Germany and Austria. Also comes usually not provided in the factory Hansen. Carl Rahl painted the images on the facade and in the vestibule, the frescoes in the church are by Ludwig Thiersch.

The orders Sina in Vienna contributed significantly to the breakthrough of the architect Theophil Hansen, who was a few years later entrusted with important buildings such as the Parliament building at the ring road.
