Wood Village is a district of the city Jessen ( Elster) in Wittenberg district in Saxony -Anhalt with about 1400 inhabitants. The formerly independent municipality, to which belonged the district Kremitz, was incorporated into the city Jessen ( Elster) on 1 March 2004.

Geography

Wood village is located south of the Flaming at the transition to lowland river Schwarze Elster, the local situation Kremitz is due to their shores. The original wooded areas of the environment are used today mostly agricultural. Just east of the town is the border of the Land Brandenburg.

History

Wood village was first mentioned in 1419. The local foundation dates back to a nearby farmyard in Mönchenhöfe, left out of this Premonstratensian monks in the wooded area to carry out extensive clearing of woodland. During the Thirty Years' War, the place burned down and was until 1653 desolate.
