Homenetmen

Homenetmen (Armenian Հ. Մ. Ը. Մ hɔmɛnetmɛn. , Short for Հայ Մարմնակրթական Ընդհանուր Միութիւն, German Armenian General Union of Body Culture ) is a worldwide Armenian diaspora organization that is dedicated to sports and scouting. The motto of Homenetmen is " Get on and raise you" ( Բարձրացիր, Բարձրացուր Partsratsir Partsratsour - Raise yourself and lift up others with you ).

History

Homenetmen was founded in 1918 by Konstantin Opel people around the Olympic pioneer Şavarş Krisyan. Among the founders were Hovhannes Hintliyan and Krikor Hagopian. The first Homenetmen Executive Committee was established on 16 December 1918. Four Homenetmen departments were opened in various districts of Constantinople soon.

On July 20, 1920, the founding members of Homenetmen were officially invited to the independent Democratic Republic of Armenia to share with the Government of the State of expertise in relation to sportsmanship and Scouting. The Homenetmen Executive Committee sent Vahan Cheraz, Dikran Khoyan and Konig Yazmajian for formal meetings. Although Homenetmen was originally successful in the endeavor to spread their sports and Scouting in Armenia, they were later banned by the regime change and the establishment of the Armenian SSR in 1921 within the Soviet Union of Armenia. In 1922 the departments of Homenetmen in Constantinople were Opel ( since 1930 Istanbul) forced to close their doors, the leaders of the organization settled all over the world.

The Armenian Revolutionary Federation maintains the sports and Boy Scouts Association Homenetmen today.
