Homschezi ( Հոմշեցի Homschezi lisu " the Hamschen - language" Turkish Hemşince ) is an archaic westarmenischer dialect that is spoken by the eastern and northern group of Hemsinli, an ethnic group in north-eastern Turkey, Georgia ( Abkhazia ) and Russia and Central Asia lives. Up to the massacres of the Armenians 1894-1896 and the genocide of the Armenians it was spoken in a larger contiguous area.

It is easily understood with the remaining Armenian. It existed only in spoken form until 1995, when the linguist Bert Vaux developed a system based on the modified Turkish alphabet orthographically system while the Armenian alphabet of Christian immigrants from Hamschen ( Northern Hemsinli ) in Russia and Georgia ( Abkhazia ) was used - the language called Homschezma ( Հոմշեցմա ).

Hemşince is spoken among the Eastern Hemschinli, also known as the Hopa Hemschinli who live in small groups in villages in the Turkish province of Artvin and in Central Asia. The Western Hemschinli or Rize Hemsinli, a related but geographically separate group in the province of Rize, spoke to the late 19th century also Hemşince. They speak today only Turkish, but retain many Hemşince - loanwords at. A third group, the northern Homschezik in Russia, Georgia ( Abkhazia ) and Armenia also speak Homschezma.

Hemşince / Homschezma has linguistic features, showing that it is part of the Western Armenian dialect group; the two are generally mutually intelligible. Hemşince has close ties to the Armenian dialects, the former in the north- eastern Turkey (Western Armenia) were to be found, especially in Hodortschur and to a lesser extent in Trabzon. Because of their long isolation, the Hemşince also contains many archaisms, which distinguishes it from all other Armenian dialects. The language forms in reserves that are only found in a classic and Middle Armenian, and also includes foreign ( mainly Turkish and Kurdish ) grammatical and lexical components of what it estranged from the modern Armenian during the twentieth century.

UNESCO has Hemşince / Homschezma classified as a definitely endangered language - many of their speakers are also crypto Armenians, submerged Armenians in Turkey.
