Horace F. Clark

Horace Francis Clark ( born November 29, 1815 in Southbury, Connecticut, † June 19, 1873 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1857 and 1861 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Horace Francis Clark graduated in 1833 from Williams College in Williamstown (Massachusetts ). He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1837 and began to practice in New York City. Over time he became wealthy, pursued a political career and was in the railroad business operates.

Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1856 he was in the eighth election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Abram Wakeman on March 4, 1857. In 1858 he was elected as an anti- Lecompton Democrat to the 36th Congress. He retired after March 4, 1861 from the Congress.

After his conference time he was director of the New York and Harlem Railroad and later president of the Union Pacific Railroad, the Michigan Southern Railroad and many other railroads. He was manager of the Western Union Telegraph Active Co. and president of the Union Trust Co.

He died on June 19, 1873 in New York City and was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
