Horacio Coppola

Horacio Coppola ( born July 31, 1906 in Buenos Aires, † June 18, 2012 ) was an Argentine photographer. He was, together with Annemarie Heinrich, Grete Stern, Juan Di Sandro Anatole Saderman and the pioneers of photography in Argentina and representatives of modernity.

Life

At the age of 21, he provided the images for the biography of Evaristo Carriego of Jorge Luis Borges. He participated in 1929 in the founding of the first Cine Club of Buenos Aires, which he was president. On a trip to Europe, he acquired a Leica camera with which he worked all his life. While studying at the Bauhaus he learned Grete Stern, whom he married. After training at Walter Peterhans, he returned with Greta stone back to Argentina in 1936 and opened his own studio.

He has won several awards, including as Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. 2003
