Hornemann Institute

The Hornemann Institute is an institute of the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim / Holzminden / Göttingen. It was founded in 1998 as a project of EXPO 2000, is internationally active and has a unique mission profile.

The primary objective of the Institute is to promote the global research and knowledge transfer in the field of conservation and restoration, as well as the training of restorers and conservators, particularly through the use of modern media.

History

The Hornemann Institute was founded in 1998 and supported until 2003 by the nonprofit association for the preservation and conservation of World Heritage eV. For this club to the city of Hildesheim, the HAWK and the University of Hildesheim had joined forces at the EXPO 2000 in Hanover. The Institute was the main component of the EXPO project " World Heritage - A Global Challenge ".

Since 1 September 2003 the Hornemann Institute is an in- Institute of the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage of the HAWK. It is named after the first German Africa - traveler Friedrich Conrad Hornemann, who was born in 1772 in Hildesheim. Since 2001, the Hornemann Institute partner of Encore ( European Network for Conservation-Restoration Education) and since 2009 member of " German Initiative for Network Information " ( DINI ).

Tasks

The task profile was developed at the international symposium, World Cultural Heritage by professionals in 1997 in Hildesheim main task of the Institute is to promote the international exchange of experiences in the field of restoration and historic preservation and support to the education and training of professionals in this area through e- learning, electronic and print publications, professional conferences, and educating the public about the importance of conservation of cultural property.

Electronic Publishing

The free online databases of the Institute with academic theses, conference proceedings, essays, films, posters and project documentation (especially the German Federal Environmental Foundation DBU ) provide a timely publication and simple research. In cooperation with the Technical Information Library Hannover ( TIB) are for major publications Digital Object Identifier assigned to keep the publications always found and are accepted by many scientific journals as the source.

An annotated bibliography of the restoration history of medieval wall painting in Europe as well as a compilation of the literature on the restoration of furniture, with abstracts, reviews, tables of contents, also include references to unpublished, so-called gray literature.

E -Learning

The Hornemann Institute of the HAWK developed for more than ten years in collaboration with teachers at the HAWK e -learning courses in the field of conservation of cultural property. It is richly illustrated Internet courses with learning checks, glossary, bibliography, and Web links. All participants can clarify questions about the subject matter and for the practical implementation via E -mail or phone the tutor at the Institute or the authors.

After successful completion, participants will receive a qualification certificate. A credit of some courses for study at the Faculty Preservation of Cultural Heritage is possible. In some cases, additional workshops.

Series

The series ( ISSN 2193-1917 ) includes 13 books, especially on the cultural history of the region, and is aimed both at professionals as to lay persons.

Events

The symposia and workshops serve us into importing the latest research results in the teaching as well as in the training.

Commitment to the region

In addition, the Institute promotes research on regional heritage, who published it in his pamphlet series, and a St. Michael in Hildesheim (Vol. 2), to the imperial family in Hildesheim (Vol. 1) and churches ( Volume 4 ) and town halls in Lower Saxony (Vol. 6). It was created in collaboration with educators materials to the monument pedagogy, including Culture suitcase with suggestions for lesson planning to Hildesheim Cathedral Library and St. Michael in Hildesheim.
