Hornopirén

The city Hornopiren and the volcano

The volcano Hornopirén is located in the Andes in Chile in the Región de los Lagos. He belongs to the Liquiñe - Ofqui ditch skirting on the western side of the Andes. The last eruption was said to be 1835, but this is unconfirmed. The volcano is morphologically a relatively young, predominantly of basalt and andesite stratovolcano existing. Its flanks are mostly forested.

The name of the volcano comes from the Spanish word horno for the furnace, and Pirén from Mapudungun word for snow. The name Hornopirén composed snow oven.

The volcano is located together with the nearby volcanoes lying Apagado ( 1,210 m) and Yate (Volcano) ( 2187 m) in the 48,232 -acre Hornopiren National Park.
