Church building

The medieval stone church consists of a rectangular nave, a church steeple in the west, a narrower straight final chorus in the east and a vestry on the north side of the choir. The built in the first half of the 13th century tower, dates from an earlier Romanesque church with apse choir, who stood in the same place. Towards the end of the 13th century, today's choir and the sacristy were built. The nave came in the first half of the 14th century to do so. The tower is provided with round-arched openings sound, while the nave has pointed windows. The south portal of the nave with narrative reliefs is one of the most interesting on Gotland. Pointed arch wall openings connect the nave to the tower room and the choir. During the restoration, under the direction of architect Arne Philips 1979-1980 the medieval frescoes were uncovered in the nave and the choir. The wall paintings of the nave to write a Egypticusmaler from the 14th century and the paintings in the choir master of the Passion. In the south window of the chancel and the nave windows are the remains of medieval stained glass, probably from the 14th century. The east window has modern stained glass by 1906. The church was restored in 1937 by the architect Erik Fant.
