Horst Birr

Horst Birr ( born February 17, 1912 in Leipzig, † October 18, 1943 in Norway ) was a German actor.

Life and work

Horst Birr began his acting career on June 1, 1929. He was a member of the NSDAP since October 1932. After a career as a comedian in theaters and cabarets Horst Birr worked since 1934 in numerous films, always in striking small supporting roles in which he embodied students, servants, minor employees and later soldiers - young men who, despite the insignificance of their preserve social position pragmatism, cheerfulness and a perky, schnodderiges mouth.

In addition to his film work, Birr was still engaged at theaters in Berlin in 1936, he played in theater and on the comedy on the Kurfürstendamm, 1939/40, at the Renaissance Theater, 1941/1942 under the Gastspieldirektion Horst van Diemen and, during his military service, at the Berlin soldiers stage. Then he was Flaksoldat in occupied Norway.

When it became known that he was regarded by the racist laws of the Nazi regime as a " half- Jew ", which he had concealed, he committed suicide on 18 October 1943 in Norway suicide.
