Horst Böhme

Horst Böhme, Johann Friedrich Horst Böhme, (* May 30, 1908 in Bernau bei Berlin, † July 27, 1996 in Arolsen ) was a German professor of pharmaceutical chemistry and former rector of the University of Marburg.

Life and work

Boehme came from an old family of pharmacists. From 1929 he studied pharmacy and chemistry at the University of Munich, where, among other things, the Nobel laureate Heinrich Wieland and Professor of Inorganic Chemistry Otto Hönigschmid were his teachers. He received his doctorate in 1934 at the University of Berlin. His doctoral supervisor was Kurt Floor village (1898-1976 ). The departure of his mentor ground village, which was followed in 1935 a call to Istanbul, Boehme opened early great scientific opportunity and independence.

He worked from 1943 at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry at Berlin- Dahlem, from 1946, he took over the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Marburg. Scientific achievements

Boehme examined, inter alia, hydrolysis of organic halogen compounds, the synthesis of α -halo sulfides and polysulfides and Methyleniminium salts. Another area of ​​research was the structure elucidation of natural products. His extensive scholarly work includes over 400 publications and several books and book chapters.

Honors

Böhme has received many awards. In 1960 he became a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in Halle ( Saale), the Free University of Berlin and the Technical University of Braunschweig awarded to him in 1968 or 1981, the honorary doctorate. In 1973 he was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit, in 1978 with the Great Cross of Merit with Star of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
