Hortulus Animae

Hortulus Animae (German: Seelengärtlein ) was the Latin title of a late medieval prayer book, which was also available in German and widespread early 16th century.

Hortulus Animae was first printed on March 13, 1498 in Strasbourg by Wilhelm Virtuous from Rappoltsweiler, a German edition appeared in 1501. Later editions contained woodcuts miniatures by Hans Springinklee and Erhard Schoen. In 1907, a facsimile of an edition in the possession of the Royal Library was to Vienna ( Bibl. Cod Pal. Vindobonensis. 2706, 1907) edited by Friedrich Dorn Höffer.

Hortulus Animae nice polo is the Polish version, translated by Biernat of Lublin, printed in 1513 by Florian Ungler in Krakow. It is considered the first printed in Polish factory.
