Hose coupling

Hose Couplings (also quick coupling, mono-coupling, multi-coupling ) are required to supply machinery or equipment with gaseous and liquid media, as well as with electricity. For flexible and thus useful many lines are not fixed to each other, but designed separable with quick couplings. They allow an efficient and reliable connection and replacement of systems, assemblies, equipment, etc. The design depends on the application, the produced in the tube medium ( air, gases, water, oil, acid, etc.) and by the ruling in the hose pressure conditions ( vacuum or pressure).

Types of quick coupling

A distinction is made according to single (mono) and multiple (multi- ) quick coupling.

Monocoupling

Mono couplers are single couplers, that is, only one line is connected. Mono coupling consists of two parts, the coupling and the nipple.

Through coupling

Through coupling and ( plug ) Nipple with free passage, both components have no valve.

Connect coupling

Sealing coupling and self sealing adapter, both components have so-called Spitz or needle valves.

Clean break coupling

Clean break coupling and nipple clean break, both components have so-called dry or low leak valves.

Multi-coupling

With multi-couplings can be several lines couple the same time. Multi-couplings are used in particular in costly equipment and machinery, ie where short set-up times and the distinctiveness of lines are especially important.

Hand-operated multi-coupling

The hand-operated multi-coupling is usually of two support plates which receive the mounting elements ( pneumatic, hydraulic clutches and / or electrical contacts). The coupling and uncoupling of the carrier plates is carried out by hand.

Auxiliary Power operated docking system

Docking systems are automatically actuated multi-couplings. Docking systems may be hydraulically, pneumatically or electrically operated.

Quick-change tool system for robots

Quick tool change systems for industrial robots are special docking systems for accurate and safe tool change (welding pliers, grippers, etc.) and consist of a robot-side multi-coupler half, usually several tool-side multi-coupling halves and the matching tool racks.

Examples of use

In addition to the terms (mono-and multi-coupling ) previously used can also be found on the application area manufactures derived terms.

Pneumatic clutch

Pneumatic couplings are couplings for air pressure hoses in pneumatics. It depends on whether the tubes are intended for permanent connection or are often connected and opened again. This part is often carried out as a check valve and closes when disconnecting the hose.

To the field of pneumatic couplings including compressed air safety couplings. They prevent over with its unique residual pressure control the dangerous whip effect during disconnection of compressed air hoses completely reliable. The full release is only possible if the adapter side pressure has fallen below a security threshold.

Pneumatic clutches or compressed air couplings must be chosen such that they, when they are coupled or uncoupled, the coupling part not dangerous sling out by the pressure (ISO 4412 ).

Hydraulic clutch

Hydraulic couplings for hydraulic equipment for quick change of tools such as the excavator switch from gripper to shovel. A basic distinction in coupling and plug-in couplings. Also at the fire department there are such couplings for hydraulic rescue set. These must normally withstand much higher pressures ( up to 1000 bar )

Chemical coupling

For safety, functional or environmental reasons, it may be that clean break couplings must be used. You have the front side flat valves, so-called low- leak valves or dry valves. The valves are constructed with these quick release couplings on the principle of volume displacement, creating a dome almost without trapping air and uncoupling is possible almost without any loss of media.

Couplings for domestic use

Also with the garden hoses, various systems have spread. The simplest is the Holländerverschraubung. Widely used but has a plug-in coupling of the company Gardena, offering complete systems.

Verladekupplung

Verladekupplungen are mainly used in the chemical industry for the loading of hazardous and polluting substances. They are usually equipped with an Emergency Separation. Thanks to flexible, portable separation points within the pipeline, risk-free loading about in wagons or ships is also possible when moving the transport elements.

Couplings in fire protection

As a fire brigade couplings for water-using fixtures in the area of water extraction and water conduction so-called " Storz couplings " are used mostly in Europe.

A distinction is made in:

  • Suction couplings and
  • Pressure couplings.

Suction couplings have to ensure a secure binding because of the stiffer material of the suction for a longer tail pieces as pressure couplings. In addition, the sealing ring used is provided with a squeegee.

Couplings in flood protection

This same couplings as in fire protection are used in small pumps often. At high pump powers often are not page same coupling systems such as Perrot couplings are used.
