Hosius of Corduba

Ossius of Córdoba ( also: Hosius, Hozius, Ossios, of Cordova; * 257 probably in Cordoba (Spain ); † 357/58 in Córdoba) was Bishop of Córdoba, Father of the Church and one of the most prominent opponent of Arianism in the Western Church.

Life

Ossius was consecrated by 296 bishop. As a confessor he had suffered during the persecution of the emperor Maximian ( 303-305 ). Files Kundig is his participation in the Synod of Elvira 306

From 312-326 Ossius court bishop was in the entourage of the Emperor Constantine, whom he advised on issues of particular Donatists. 324 he was sent by the emperor as legate to the East to settle the Arian dispute. Ossius is venerated by the Orthodox Church as " Ossius the Confessor " as a saint, but not of the Catholic Church. His feast day in the Orthodox Church is 27 August.
