Hot Fuss is the debut album by the American rock band The Killers. It was published in the German-speaking area on 4 October 2004 in Iceland Records.

Creation and publication

The first album was recorded in Berkeley and Los Angeles from February to November 2003. An exception is the piece of Everything Will Be Alright, which was recorded at the home of guitarist David Keuning.

The album was released in the UK on 15 June 2004, in Germany the album came out on 4 October 2004.

Chart positions

Place one could reach the album in two countries, namely Australia and the UK. In the latter be held Hot Fuss 224 weeks in the top 100 with fourth place in Canada, number five in New Zealand, number seven in the U.S. and eighth place in France were obtained in three other countries rankings among the top ten. More rankings in the charts there was 15th place in Finland, number 35 in Spain, # 46 in the Netherlands, number 48 in Switzerland, number 60 in Austria, # 66 in Wallonia, number 75 in Germany, number 88 in Mexico and No. 95 reached in Flanders.

Awards

In Argentina, Belgium, France and Germany, the album was both awarded a gold record in New Zealand there was this award in platinum. In the United States, Canada and Australia, there was this award three times, in the United Kingdom six times.

2005 Hot Fuss was nominated for the Grammy Awards in the category for Best Rock Album, had to be there but American Idiot by Green Day beaten. At the BRIT Awards, the album was nominated in the category for best international album, the award went to the eponymous album of Scissor Sisters In addition, the album was recorded in the list of 1001 albums you must hear before you die.

Reception

Critics of the album "generally favorable" (Eng. " generally positive " ) was mixed recorded Metascore assigns a rating of 66 % based on 20 reviews, and thus the predicate. This Hot Fuss is on par with other albums of the band.

Armin Linder of Plattentests.de especially praises the musical composition, which he called a " bang ". The last song of the album, however, would prevent a better assessment because they can not keep up with the beginning. Overall, he forgives eight out of ten.

The BBC praised the album as well. Critics Nick Reynolds, particularly of Komposotion and singer Brandon Flowers, however, reveal two to three songs and the production slight weaknesses. The song Somebody Told Me was particularly praised, Reynolds admitted him chances for the title "Song of the Year".

The Rolling Stone awarded 3.5 out of five stars and said that the album mainly consisted of good, danceable hits. 2009 Hot Fuss was voted number 43 of the albums of the decade.

MacKenzie Wilson of Allmusic called The Killers as " one of the few pop bands with talent ", but the band did not manage to keep it the dynamics of the entire album. When grading, the album three out of five stars.

Laut.de awards two stars out of five. Critic Michael Shoe certifies the band good approaches, but many songs seem " stale or overly trendy ."
