Hotel Berolina

The hotel Berolinahaus was a hotel in Berlin's Karl -Marx -Allee. It existed from 1963 to 1996 and stood back from the street frontage behind the Kino International.

History and Architecture

The hotel was built in 1961-1963 under the second phase of construction of the Karl -Marx -Allee, designed by Josef Kaiser, Günter Kunert and collective.

The 13 -floor building had 375 rooms, a restaurant with 200 seats, a specialty restaurant in the basement, a café on the top floor as well as corporate and conference rooms. The house stood between the Weydemeyerstraße and Berolinastraße. Thus, it was not actually at the Karl -Marx -Allee, however, had - as well as the current building on the same site - the address of Karl -Marx -Allee 31,

While the building has been carried out up to and including the first floor with monolithic structure, the upper floors were built in large plate design. The early hotel lobby and the hotel access to the covered right of way were designed as large glazed steel construction. There was a sale section at the rear of the building. The hotel's facade was covered on the ground and first floors with travertine and in the other upper floors with blue ceramic plates.

The hotel was opened in 1964 as Berolinahaus HO hotel. 1965 took over the Association Inter Hotel the house. 1990 Inter Hotel has been transformed into the Hotel Inter AG, the further operation the hotel Berolinahaus first. On December 31, 1995, the hotel was closed in 1996, the Grade II listed building is demolished. At the same place was the new owner, the Estonian Trigon Group, from 1996 to build a 14 - etagiges skyscraper according to the design of architect community Bassenge, Henry, Puhan -Schulz to 1998. The new building is oriented architecture at the former hotel and now houses the Town Hall center of Berlin.

Currently, there are in and around Berlin some hotel and restaurant establishments that bear the name Berolinahaus, but not related to the hotel described herein in the context.
