Hotel Castelar

Hotel Castelar is a hotel in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. It is located in the Montserrat neighborhood at the intersection of Avenida de Mayo and Avenida 9 de Julio.

The hotel was opened in 1928 as " Hotel Excelsior ", it was designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti. The Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca lived here from October 1933 to March 1934, when his play " Blood Wedding " at the nearby Teatro Avenida was performed. This room is now a museum. The hotel was also the site of the dramatic resignation of Carlos Álvarez on 6 October 2000 that led to the resignation of President Fernando de la Rúa, a year later.
