Hottelstedt is a district of the municipality Berlstedt in the north of the circle of Weimar. Hottelstedt has about 200 inhabitants.

Location

Hottelstedt is located on the northwest slope of the mountain and setters on the southern edge of the Thuringian Basin. The county road 512 connects the district traffic default. The Forest of Etter Mountain and planted gullies loosen the arable land on something.

History

Hottelstedt was first mentioned in 1322 as Hottenstede. Unsecured is the mention in a list of goods imperial abbey of Fulda, which dated to before 900, as Otenstat. Presumably this is meant a mountain of place Ottstedt. 1487 Hottelstedt was sold to the family of Wirchshausen. In the literature, January 16, 1194 is given.

The main occupation of the village was agriculture. Also Waidanbau was operated so can be detected in 1542 two Waidgärten. The operation of a community pub with its own brewery, and two windmills at the latest from the 19th century are represented.

Since 1578 there was a school in the village, which only employed a teacher until 1945. Today, the children attend the school center in Berlstedt. The parish of the village was first mentioned in 1328.

In the era of National Socialism of the Etter Mountain was built on Hottelstedter hallway Buchenwald concentration camp on the western slope. The site of the concentration camp was incorporated to Weimar in 1938.

On December 1, 2007 Hottelstedt was incorporated into Berlstedt.

  • Church with cemetery: The late Gothic church with its almost square west tower dates from the 16th century. From the initial endowment is still a predella of the altar first available.
