History

The territory of Ottstedt a mountain was inhabited in the Neolithic period. Along the gully God ditch on the western slope of the mountain between Etter Ottstedt and the top of the mountain prehistoric stone tools were found. The first documentary mention as Odestat dates from the year 876, was held in Ingelsheimer protocol and carried out in connection with the tithe dispute between the Archbishop of Mainz and the monastery of Fulda. Other name of the place were: Odenstat, Odenstet and Utstete. The link with the Germanic god Odin is very close.

Until 1815 ran through the middle of Ottstedt the boundary between the Electorate of Mainz city of Erfurt and the Ducal Saxe-Weimar, and the venue was two fold. In a village fire 1820 33 homes and most barns were destroyed, but the church remained intact.

In the years after reunification, the village was rehabilitated. The measures covered, inter alia, the renovation of several farms and estates in the lower and upper village, road and sewer construction, the redesign of the village square and the monument. The baroque church Ottstedter was affected by the construction work.
