Ramsla

Ramsla is a municipality in the northern part of the Weimar area and part of the joint management Nordkreis Weimar.

Geography

The town lies north of Etter Mountain with 477 meters and the city of Weimar. About 3.5 kilometers away is the capital of the administrative community Berlstedt. Ramsla itself is located on a sloping hill to the northeast.

History

The first mention was made in 1119 as Ramslas Rameslahe in a charter of Archbishop Adalbert of Mainz. From 1211, the name appears in the records as Ramsla.

The property to the municipality was divided between the imperial abbey of Fulda, the rule of the Counts of Gleichen, the monasteries Paulinzella and Pforta and possessions of the Marienstifts Erfurt. Since the 16th century, the cultivation of woad played a major role in the employment of the majority of living of the agricultural population. In the 19th century an important beekeeping industry has emerged. I also had, especially in weaving and hosiery, a large number of craft. So 1727 20 knitting frames are detectable in the year.
