Hammerstedt

Hammerstedt is a municipality in the southern part of the Weimar area. It belongs to the administrative community Mellingen.

History

The town was first mentioned in 900 as Hamarestete. 1287, it appeared as Hamer Constant. In the Thirty Years' War, the village was largely destroyed in 1784 a major fire destroyed the church and 33 houses. Hammerstedt is a member of the administrative community Mellingen a voluntary association of municipalities to deal with the administrative work, the community will continue to be managed independently by a volunteer mayor since 1991.

Culture and sights

The Protestant branch church is a massive, steinsichtige choir tower church. They burned down in 1784 and was rebuilt in 1787 with a mansard roof. The pulpit altar in the round-arched triumphal arch is from the same time. Outside the building are located on the north side of the choir remains of grave stones from the 18th and 19th centuries.
