Mechelroda

Mechelroda is a municipality in the southern part of the Weimar area and part of the joint management Mellingen. Districts are Mechelroda and Linda.

History

Mechelroda is first documented as a " Mechtylderode " in 1319. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the area of the castle Weimar, manorial estate had the pork Berg ( 1328 ), the marshals of Tiefurt ( 1332 ), the monastery Oberweimar and in the 16th century the family of Meusebach.

In the village is the " Gleichensche Hof", a Freihofstraße, who belonged to the manor Blank grove, while the manor was incorporated with the rest of the village as a seat of a Patrimonialgerichts the Office Weimar.

From the beginning of the 19th century the city was part of the Grand Duchy of Saxe -Weimar- Eisenach and after 1945 with the State of Thuringia part of the Soviet occupation zone and the GDR. Since 1990, the city is part of the newly established state of Thuringia.

The district Linda was first mentioned in 1338 in connection with the noble family De Linde and was abandoned after 1450 as a settlement. In the 16th century a Schäfereigut the reign Blank grove was built. Since 1850, Linda is incorporated to Mechelroda.

Mechelroda is located two kilometers south of the highway 87 Barely further, it is up to the motorway junction Apolda the Federal Highway 4

Bus number 229 of the management company of the public transport Sömmerda and Weimar opens up the place during the week, the schedule is geared to school transport. The nearest train station is Mellingen to the wooden runway, about four kilometers north of Mechelroda.

Culture and sights

The evangelical church is a small, massive and originally plastered hall church with eastern tower roof. It was built in 1707 in place of a predecessor ( 1580). Renovations were made in 1888 and 1965. Inside are a vaulted wooden ceiling and two-story galleries. A baroque pulpit altar stands in the West. The baptismal font with an octagonal limestone basin dates from the 15th century. Before Altarstipes is the grave stone of Anne of Nesselrot of to 1581.
