Hours of Saint-Omer

The Hours of Saint- Omer is not named after the first owner, but according to the region of Saint-Omer, in northern France, which St. Omer, also Audomar, Audemer or Otmer, a Benedictine monk who Christianized in the 7th century. He became bishop of Therouanne is noted in the calendar on October 17 and 21. These entries of the consecration of his church and of finding his relics are kept in blue.

The manuscript was written for Marguerite de Beaujeu and illuminated.

She was a niece of Humbert II and was with Ebles VIII, called Hélie ( † before 1297 ), Vicomte de Ventadour married. Next Marguerite was a niece of Guillaume de Beaujeu, a Grand Master of the Knights Templar.

Her son Bernard, 1329 a successor as Vicomte de Ventadour came in 1358 in the possession of the county of Montpensier. Robert and Bernard de Ventadour, sons Bernard, sold Montpensier 1381 at the Jean de Valois, duc de Berry.

Miniatures

Marguerite appears on the edges of those pages on which is indicated by miniatures on the main subdivisions of the text. In Marienoffizium she kneels to sixth on a platform held by a monkey and considers the Adoration of the Magi. Even with the penitential psalms they can be seen, this time at the descent into hell, they grieved because she has put her prayer-book on the floor or dropped; offers perhaps her dog her some comfort. The report of the descent of Christ after the crucifixion in limbo for the salvation of the souls of the righteous comes from the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus and is not included in the canonical Gospels. The Hellmouth was usually depicted as a jaw of the monster Leviathan. On the relevant page of this book of hours, the scope of the Initial D from the hind legs of a winged beast in the upper left corner, losing its head and front legs in the wattle developed. Similarly, the initial of the Adoration of the Magi from a winged monkeys developed.
