House of Kmita

Kmita is the name of a Polish noble family, which belonged to the Crest Community Szreniawa.

The first mention of this dynasty come from the first half of the 14th century by the acquisition of a castle in Nowy Wiśnicz. As a result, the gender of the Kmita acquired additional lands and cities in today's Carpathian Mountains and the Bieszczady, also they established along the upper reaches of the San more villages, so that they, the men were over 60 villages in the region to the exit of the 16th century.

The head of the family was from about 1389, the Sobien castle in the valley of the River San and after its destruction by the troops of the Kingdom of Hungary, in 1474, the town of Lesko. The ancestral home of the family, the castle Sobien, fell during the Bar Confederation, 1768-1772 final ruin.

The main line of Kmita died in the 16th century in the male line.
