Hovhannes Tcholakian

John Tcholakian, also Hovhannes J. Tcholakian, ( born April 12, 1919 in Istanbul, Turkey) is Archbishop of Istanbul archeparchy of the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey.

Life

John Tcholakian received on 25 April 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 23 May 1966 ( officially confirmed on January 16, 1967) Archbishop of Istanbul the Armenian Catholic Church in Turkey. He received his episcopal consecration on 5 March 1967 Grégoire -Pierre XV. Agagianian Cardinal, Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenian Catholic Church and Cardinal of the Roman Church; Co-consecrators were Guregh Hovhannes Zohrabian, Auxiliary Bishop of Cilicia, and Bishop Garabed Amadouni, Apostolic Exarch for Armenians in France.
