Howard W. Hunter

Howard William Hunter ( born November 14, 1907 in Boise, Idaho; † March 3, 1995 in Salt Lake City, Utah) was the 14th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints.

Life

Howard W. Hunter was born on November 14, 1907 as the son of John William Hunter and Nellie Marie Rasmussen Hunter. He was very musical and played several instruments. With the band, which he founded, the Hunter Croonaders, he played on cruise ships.

On October 15, 1959 President David O. McKay called him to be an apostle. In this capacity, he led the negotiations in Jerusalem, to found the branch of Brigham Young University, Jerusalem Center.

His presidency

After the death of Ezra Taft Benson Howard W. Hunter was ordained on 5 June 1994 as President of the Church. He encouraged members to a special expression of their religion often to visit the temple. During his presidency, he dedicated two temples.

Even before he became President of the Church, he was seriously ill and moved laboriously with a walker after he temporarily could no longer go before. He died on March 3, 1995, His nine -month presidency was the shortest so far in the history of his church.
