Høre stave church

The Stave Church Høre (or Danish spelling Stave Church Hurum ) is a Norwegian stave church in Høre in Valdres.

History

It was first mentioned as " ecclesia de Ordun " in 1327 in a document, but is dated to the second half of the 12th century. According to inscriptions, the logs used must have been like in 1180, as they relate to the year after the Battle of Nidaros (today Trondheim ), which took place in 1179. The church had a predecessor with masts, which were admitted directly into the ground. During archaeological investigations was found in a post hole the previous church a coin to 1100. Similarly, the excavations promoted several coins from the period 1154-1202 revealed.

In the 17th century a bell tower block construction was built next to the church.

The church was heavily remodeled in the 19th century and therefore lost its original appearance. She was a long church with a narrower choir as the ship and an apse and a flanking porch. The conversion work she got a new choir in block design and you removed the roof skylights in 1850 and they were reused in the cemetery. 1970 restored to the church.

Architecture

Only the corner columns of the Hochsäulenkostruktion are supporting. The rest of the columns are pending and end on the lower bar clamps. The supporting corner posts have carved with tendrils motifs capitals. The portals are made of carved half columns with vines and animal motifs and from Archivolts.
