Hristo Smirnenski

Christo Smyrnenski ( Bulgarian Христо Смирненски, English transcription Hristo Smyrnenski, . Born September 29, 1898 in Kilkis (Greece); † June 18 1923 in Sofia) was a Bulgarian writer and poet.

Life

Christo Smyrnenski lived a happy childhood and was a playful child with a great sense of humor. However, he was forced to flee during the First Balkan War in 1912 with his family in Sofia at the age of 14 years, where he began to write. He wrote, among other songs, animal stories and jokes in rhyme. His literary debut was in 1915 in a satirical magazine. From 1918 he also wrote for the Communist press of Bulgaria. Until his early death at age 25, he died of tuberculosis, the restless poet wrote under pseudonyms to 70 thousands of poems and other works.
