HTC Dream

The HTC Dream, marketed as T -Mobile G1 is a smartphone that is manufactured by the HTC Corporation. It was the first device that has been placed on the market with the Android operating system. Since autumn 2008, it was only sold with a SIM lock for T -Mobile under the name T -Mobile G1 in the U.S. and the UK. In Austria, the T -Mobile G1 is since January 30, 2009, available in Germany since February 2, 2009 without a SIM -lock and exclusively through T -Mobile.

To operate the Dream offers five function keys, trackball, touch screen and a sliding keyboard underneath.

The Dream is optimized for access to the Internet, in particular at the service of Google that can be partially accessed by a single click. It allows connections over wireless local area networks and in mobile networks data transfers using the accelerated method HSPA and EDGE. In contrast to other smartphones synchronization is not provided with a personal computer. Instead, updates the legend almost all data, such as calendar entries, or even the phone book, with a web server from Google. In case of a crash, this mobile data can then be re-established. This function data synchronization, in which a constant connection to the Internet and Google personal data can be obtained from the user, can be off. Furthermore, the G1 created a phone book, which can be sorted by popularity. By synchronizing with the Google server internal statistics are compiled that sorts all the calls in the phone book.

Operating system

On the HTC Dream Android running with the so-called Google Experience ( tools and adaptations of Google). It contains among others support for Gmail (including push email), Google Calendar, and Android Market today: Google Play.

The last version released by HTC 's Android 2.1; Moreover, no official updates are available.

This explained, for example, T -Mobile. As an impediment to the limited space of the phone is discussed. In fact, there are now porting of Android 2.x on the G1 ( CyanogenMod particular ) that comprise the disposable part of Android, as part of the installation, however, the non- shared ( Google ) components can be added. The installation requires some " tricks " because on the one hand the phone to install non- official system versions normally prevents other hand, the built- disk space to store the software in the delivered condition is not sufficient.

With these newer, unofficial versions of Android, the G1 can be added in addition to the new interface and include " standardized " Tethering via Bluetooth (PAN ) and USB (Remote NDIS ).
