Personal Area Network

Under a Personal Area Network (abbreviation: PAN, English for about personal network. ) Refers to a network that can be of small devices such as PDAs or mobile phones ad hoc and dismantled. PANs can therefore using various wired transmission technologies such as USB or FireWire or using wireless technologies such as IrDA, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi are built ( WPAN). The range is usually only a few meters. PANs can be used to communicate with the devices to each other, but they can also be used to communicate with a larger network ( uplink). An object created via Bluetooth PAN is called piconet.

One currently in development version of the PAN is the Skinplex or Bodynet. In this case, assumes the role of the skin with the transfer medium ( see also Body Area Network).
