Hubert Knoblauch

Hubert Knoblauch ( born March 21, 1959 in Friedrichshafen, Germany ) is a German sociologist.

Life

Academic Career

After his graduation in 1978 Hubert Knoblauch studied sociology, philosophy and history at the Universities of Konstanz and Brighton until 1985. Following a stint as an assistant at the University of St. Gallen in 1985 and a research stay at the Sorbonne in Paris ( IV) in 1987, he worked from 1987 to 1990 as a research assistant at the University of Konstanz.

There he received his doctorate in 1989 at Thomas Luckmann. After a research stay at the University of California at Berkeley ( 1990-91 ) he worked as a research assistant at the University of Konstanz and has taught in Bern, Zurich and Prague. In 1994 he completed his habilitation at the University of Konstanz.

It postdoctoral studies at the University of Nottingham (1996) and at the London School of Economics ( 1996-97) and in 1998 a visiting professor at the University of Vienna. From 1996 to 2000, garlic Heisenberg Fellow. After a 2 -year-old professor of Sociology of Religion and Religious Studies at the University of Zurich ( 2000-2002), since 2002 he is professor of theories of modern societies in the art General Sociology at the Technical University of Berlin.

Other Activities

Hubert Knoblauch is the speaker of " Research Network Sociology of Culture" of the European Sociological Association, member of the council of the German Sociological Association and was elected member of the College of 2004-2012 Social Sciences of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. He is head of the section " sociology " of the Gorres Society for the Care of science and editor of the series Sociological treatises of the Gorres Society. In addition, the board of various journals ( " FQS ", " Human Studies", "Qualitative Research ", " Religion and Society ", " social sense " and " Schuetzean Studies" ) and editor of the series "Knowledge, Communication and Society " in VS publishing and Consulting Editor of the series " Qualitative Sociology Review".
