Hubertus von Pilgrim

Hubertus von Pilgrim ( born August 24, 1931 in Berlin ) is a German sculptor who lives and works in Pullach.

Life and work

Hubertus von Pilgrim studied after an apprenticeship as a cooper art and literature and philosophy at the University of Heidelberg. At the same time he took art lessons with Erich Heckel. Finally, he studied sculpture at Bernhard Heiliger at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. 1963-1977 he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig, then he received a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1995 he became Professor Emeritus since he has worked freelance. He has created a total of 22 (identical) monuments that commemorate the death march of prisoners of Dachau concentration camp in 1945, and which are in Munich and in the wider area surrounding Munich along the route of the death march. Another copy is in the Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. From Pilgrim comes also a monument to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at Lesmüller - house in the Perusastrasse in downtown Munich. From Pilgrim occupied his long artistic career in addition to the sculpture with the design of coins and medals, and with the engraving.

Hubertus von Pilgrim is a member of the German Society for Medaillenkunst and belongs to the circle of artists of the Munich Medalists at.

Awards

In 1995 he was inducted into the Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts, in 1997 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with Star, in 2005, the Bavarian Order of Merit and in 2008 the German medalist Prize Johann Veit Doell.
