Hudson Dusters

The Hudson Dusters were a criminal organization in New York City from 1890 to 1916 and are considered one of the five classic bands of the city.

Territory

The name of the gang was referring to the territory controlled by them, which skirted to the west along the lower Manhattan; that is, It started at the Hudson River and moved to the east to Broadway in Manhattan, in the north to Fourteenth Street and touched the south the Battery. A real headquarters of the gang had allegedly not, but if there was something to talk about, then the gang met probably somewhere in the Bethune or Hudson Street.

History

The Irish band was founded about 1890 and then won against the Potashes and Boodles. Their leaders were Kid Yorke and Circular Jack, who originally came from the Gophers. Dusters and the Gophers allied themselves later, but ultimately subject to the battle with the Italian Five Pointers and the " Kosher Nostra " Eastman gear. The rest worried then 1916 Marginals, which took control of the West Side docks.

Activities

The Dusters supplied among others, the local intellectuals and artists with cocaine; but many of the members were themselves dependent cocaine users. From the ranks of the Dusters emerged a legendary thief. " Ding Dong " organized a group of children, who climbed the express wagons of the railway and mail stole.
