Features

Huernia macrocarpa forms stem succulent, upright, or just lying down and then upright shoots that are usually compact and tufted. They are up to about 9 cm high, have a four - or fünfrippigen cross section and 1.5 cm in diameter. The warts are drawn smaller than 1 cm and spitzkonisch. They are approximately perpendicular to the stem axis. The flowers are on short to about 1 cm long flower stems and pointing outwards or are bent slightly downward. The sepals measure 6-12 x 0.75-1.5 mm. The corolla is about 1.5 to 2 cm in diameter and is bell-shaped. It is inside brownish or yellowish to blackish with purple cross bands. The inside of the petals is papillose. The crown tip are triangular and 5-7 mm long. They are upright or slightly bent outwards. The corona is dark brown to blackish. The interstaminalen corona lobes are transversely rectangular to square. The staminal corona lobes are often bright yellow at the base and dark to the apical end, usually dark to black- brown or black. The pollinium is yellowish, the fruit up to 17 cm long, with a diameter of up to 1 cm. They are often paired - splayed on a short, woody stem.

Geographical distribution

The species occurs in Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

The species was described by Achille Richard 1851 Stapelia macrocarpa first time. Its type specimen came from Ethiopia. Since then, the species has been described under several other names, which are therefore synonyms:
